Students with complex needs often puzzle professionals as they are non-verbal, lack consistent engagement and focus and have limited motor skills and motor planning abilities. In efforts to teach them, choice-making within repetitive activities is used with little success due to limited affective engagement.
This workshop will focus on how to embed creative combinations of core language to give students more language POWER over their everyday experiences, play and interaction and literacy-based experiences. Each of the 3 hours will consist of a brief section on theory and evidence with participants then released to the “learning lab” to practice skills under the guidance of workshop professionals with AAC devices including Tobii Dynavox I-Series, Indi and soft-tech tools. Prepare to listen, learn and DO! Participants will walk away with real-experiences that will change how we interact with students!
