Typically, girls with Rett Syndrome are read to in the classroom, but get very little instruction in the actual reading of connected text. This instruction is essential as part of a Balanced Literacy Program. It supports a leisure activity they can do independently as well as provides a strong foundation for writing. Being able to write, allows a nonverbal individual with Rett, to virtually say anything.
